There are plenty of buildings with barbed wires around the CBD of Johannesburg and the surrounding. If I was a tourist I would be scared to even walk in such a city especially that this city is notorious for it's crime.

The truth of the matter is that Joburg has changed drastically and it's far way more safer than people might think but the barbed wires still hanged on the building can create a scare to the visitors of the city. There's laws regarding placing things like barbed wires on the buildings but law enforcement from JMPD, Johannesburg Metro Police Department, is one last thing on their list of "to do".

GOOD luck abounds in Chinatown. Two dragon columns, which are said to bring good luck, have been erected in the suburb, demarcating this forgotten part of the CBD with the prospect of good fortune.

"The dragons symbolise power and grandeur, and might and good luck," says Walter Pon, chairman of the First Chinese Association, based in Chinatown at the western end of Commissioner Street.

The area is about 100 years old, and was settled by a majority of Chinese business class citizens around 1910. It's a small area, around three blocks, now somewhat run down with only three small grocers and four restaurants, with several vacant and shuttered buildings.

The tall, grey concrete columns stand around three metres high. Pon says the community originally planned a large colourful gateway, stretching across the street. But, he is happy with the columns as they will require less maintenance.

Some of the the most adorable structures that can be found in Johannesburg and that is the structure that used to serve as Johannesburg's Park Station. It is said that Johannesburg Housing Company is the owner of the site and the structure and there are plans to building low cost houses were the structure is, I hope all these is not the truth.

If I had my way, I would like to see the structure being turned into Green House were plants and vegies are grown. I would encourage people with HIV/AIDS to come work there for a small fee. I would include a waterfall and encorporate statues dedicated to victims of HIV and AIDS. I would turn part of the empty space next to the green house to saturday and/or sunday morning markets for flowers and vegetables. I would then make sure that the place is bright and glowing at night use green energy and lights.

Planning is currently in progress for a spectacular new R1.1 Billion office development, to be known as Towers West, that will be situated adjacent to Absa Group's head office in central Johannesburg. It will consolidate a number of Absa departments currently housed in leased premises throughout Gauteng and provide considerable financial benefit to the city.

The new building will span three city blocks and will comprise an office building taking up two city blocks, with a bridge over Marshall Street, and a Parkade on the third city block. Plans are also underway to include an energy centre in the development to service the surrounding Absa campus.

It is part of Absa's ongoing commitment to the regeneration and upliftment of the inner-city and is in line with President Thabo Mbeki's vision of a revitalised Africa," says Steve Booysen, Absa CEO.

"An additional 3 580 permanent Absa staff members will work in the CBD which will result in additional consumer spend and, consequently, be a boost for the region's economy.

Captured here is the similation of a hijack and the reaction from the police. Billions of rands in human and other resources have been spent to make sure that South Africa host incidient free tournament.
